And the hits keep coming

The van has developed a grinding noise (low, not high-pitched) when the brakes are used. It hasn't affected performance, but is a concern. It's going into the shop tomorrow morning. Ideally it will be a affordable fix.

is it front wheel drive? Could be CV joints. It not cheap, but necessary and is still less expensive than
a different vehicle in most cases.

I always thought low grinding meant brake pads, but what do I know??

Squealing usually means pads, while grinding means the pads are gone and the backing plates are now rubbing on the rotors. Good thing you're getting it fixed now before you break something!
