At ConQuesT last weekend one of the items in the charity auction was a set of 4 tickets for Friday's Royals game against Cleveland. There wasn't much of a fight over them, and we got them for $20 ($17 each face value). So nPulsifer, Rohanna (her first game of the year!), Dragonet2 (her second game of the month!) and I planned on heading there after work.

Then I realized that the next night was John Mayberry bobblehead night. I debated attempting to exchange the tickets, but Pulsifer discovered that there was a sale on tickets for the Saturday game, so he picked up those online.

Friday we experimented with parking on the right field side of the stadium, as that's where the tickets were for, and discovered that in addition to the construction chaos within the stadium complex, Raytown Road has been closed off as well. So we had an adventure in Raytown, and managed to escape unharmed and get there in plenty of time. The seats were in what used to be General Admission, and we resolved to move once the game started, as the foul pole was blocking our view (nPulsifer complained that he "couldn't see Mark Teahan's butt" and that this was unacceptable. He and I went for beer, and when I came back the ladies had indeed moved over, but I was warned by them that one of the group of 20-somethings who had been sitting a couple of rows in front of our new location had had, as Dragonet put it, "an evacuation moment" all over the area. I asked "the blonde?" and was told yes. I had seen her and a friend coming down the stairs before the game, and it was obvious that she was thoroughly wasted. Then an usher came by and said if we wanted to move over to the next section, it was ok. So we wound up in the real seats for the night (the main difference being the cupholders).

As for the game, Royals pitching gave up three home runs and David DeJesus got caught off second base and tagged out, negating the tying run, and we lost 5-4. 12th in a row. Much booing and cursing (and not just from me). While the Friday fireworks were neat, it was not enough.

After a modest breakfast of cherubim and seraphim, we did some grocery shopping and then Ro and I headed back out to the ballpark with nPulsifer, Gisele and nPulsifer's son Eric. We met a co-worker of nPulsifer's and her daughter there, and had a nice tailgate cookout. That morning I discovered that Mendolia's makes chorizo, so I tried those, along with their excellent Italian sausage. The chorizo was very good, and very hot. Much beer was consumed, and then we caught a stretch-limo golf cart to the gate. The bobbleheads acquired, we made our way to our seats, which were in the same section as last night, but five rows further back.

This time, things went much better on the field. DeJesus made up for his baserunning blunder with a homer and and RBI double, and Soria came out of the pen in the 8th to nail the win down. 4-2 us!!!! The losing streak is over!

Today is for relaxing, with only a trip to Costco (all of 6 blocks away) on the agenda. And watching the Royals on tv, of course. Ro requested sautéed chicken livers for breakfast, so I cooked up a batch (breaded with rye flour, various seasonings and romano cheese, then cooked in butter). Pork chops for dinner. Om nom nom.
