Another pointless exercise in entropy almost done. Highlight of the week was seeing Venus, Jupiter and the Moon in the night skky (Monday was overcast). The winter blahs are here with a vengeance. Meh. Maybe some music will cheer me up.

1) Moonlight Trough The Window, PeerGynt Lobogris

2) Hitsville UK, The Clash

3) The Ugly Little Duck, Stephin Merritt

4) Waiting Room (Fugazi cover), Emm Gryner

5) This Little Piggy, Rasputina

6) Ritual, Nico Gomez

7) Princess - Movement II, kARHu

8) Dance Indra, Ananda Shankar

9) Squares (Bloah Mix), The Beta Band

10) Spektrum, Bluebridge Quartet

and, because too much is not enough:

11) Space Christmas, Shonen Knife

12) Entr'acte I, kARHu

13) Taste The Sun, A Beautiful Machine

After the multiple entertainments of last weekend (KU beating MU, the Chefs beating the Raiders, Lobsterfestapaloozathon), this one will be pretty tame. Hollyx3 Days sale will be the highlight. Baconcats, having finished the regular season at 12-1, have the first week of the Ralphie Fantasy League playoffs off. And I'll even be marginally enthusiastic about MU upsetting the Sooners, if only to make the BCS assclowns cry.

Later, if at all.

It has been announced that Forrest J. Ackerman has died, and this time they mean it!*

I met Forry at a ComicCon here in KC somewhere in the '80s that was held in the basement of the Ranch Mart Shopping Center. He was at the table next to mine, and we chatted a bit. He was having a great time with his movie memorabilia, chatting with anyone who stopped by.

Over the years I saw him at Worldcons, and the "Area 51 Film Festival" here. The last time I saw him was in an elevator at LaCon IV in 2006. He didn't look well at that time, and I decided not to try to talk with him. His health had been deteriorating for a while, and I am most sorry he wasn't able to attend Nippon 2007.

He was a tireless and enthusiastic supporter and promoter of the literature of the fantastic in all its forms, and the field is diminished by his passing. Farewell, Uncle Forry.

*Locus and several websites announced a few weeks ago that he had died, but soon discovered he was still quite alive. Presumably this announcement was preceded by Charles N. Brown wielding the stake, garlic and the rest of the usual means of "confirmation."
