It has been announced that Forrest J. Ackerman has died, and this time they mean it!*

I met Forry at a ComicCon here in KC somewhere in the '80s that was held in the basement of the Ranch Mart Shopping Center. He was at the table next to mine, and we chatted a bit. He was having a great time with his movie memorabilia, chatting with anyone who stopped by.

Over the years I saw him at Worldcons, and the "Area 51 Film Festival" here. The last time I saw him was in an elevator at LaCon IV in 2006. He didn't look well at that time, and I decided not to try to talk with him. His health had been deteriorating for a while, and I am most sorry he wasn't able to attend Nippon 2007.

He was a tireless and enthusiastic supporter and promoter of the literature of the fantastic in all its forms, and the field is diminished by his passing. Farewell, Uncle Forry.

*Locus and several websites announced a few weeks ago that he had died, but soon discovered he was still quite alive. Presumably this announcement was preceded by Charles N. Brown wielding the stake, garlic and the rest of the usual means of "confirmation."

I still remember meeting him at a arcon a while back and i bought one item on his table that was from the 2 world con. His personal assistant was there dealing with me, uncle forry told him that he would take over. he asked me why i wanted that item, it was the historical one. I told him that was why. We started talking about the item which was a movie program from a movie that he had talked Tucker in to splicing together. We then started talking about Tucker then.... he was a great man
