A good evening
Mar. 7th, 2009 12:20 amRohanna and I went to see Brewer and Shipley tonight, and it was a wonderful time. Michael Brewer was suffering from back problems, so the set was probably a little shorter than it might have been otherwise, but they were in fine voice and played a goodly number of their hits, including the classic "One Toke Over the Line."
Before playing it, they told the story of how it became a hit while being banned, and how they were put on Nixon's enemies list for it because the song "subverted America's youth," according to Spiro Agnew. They also referenced this version of it:
Oddly enough, the video of them appears to be from the same venue where we saw them tonight, the Community
Christian Church in KC, which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
