This was all ready to go Friday morning, just one song left to play and the ineffably witty opening and closing remarks to write, when my mouse stopped working. Oh, look, I thought, needs batteries again. Then I realized the keyboard had gone too. Then I looked up at my monitor, and saw a message. It told me my machine had crashed, and I needed to shut it down and restart. Apparently my Mac had just gotten the news of Steve Jobs' death, and took it really hard. Couldn't get it to work before I had to go to work. So here it is, better late than never.

1) Blue Spark, X

2) Eleanor Speaks (Caribou Remix), Oh No Ono

3) Snake In The Grass, Thomas Jefferson Kaye

4) Money, Roger Waters & Eric Clapton (Brendyn Byrne Arena, NJ 1984-07-21)

5) Metal Machine Music, Part II, Lou Reed

6) 57 Channels (And Nothin' on) [Live], Bruce Springsteen (Acoustic Tales (Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, 1990-11-16 (Disc 1))

7) No More, Cowboy Junkies (2005-06-06 - Ram's Head Tavern)

8) Your Favorite Thing, Sugar

9) It Must Be Love, Rick Derringer

10) Devil's Candy Shop, Nigel Simmons

wait for it!

11) Dying Seas, Hawkwind

12) Spirits In The Material World, The Police

13) Breakfast Blues, Trout Fishing in America

This morning Rohanna and I headed out to get this year's half-a-cow from the processor. Due to the large amount of construction on Hwy 50, we chose to take the more leisurely route on State Hwy 58. This went quite well, and was a lovely country drive, until we got to Strasberg, where we discoovered 58 was closed. The detour took us all the way back north to 50, and then back down another county highway, a total of 20 minutes of driving to get back on 58 three miles further along. Racing on county highways at far above the posted speed limit, we arrived at Gilbert's at 11.54a, thrilled to see the "Open" sign in the window. The cow is now in the freezer. Nomness awaits.

Review of the Prime Rib Grill, in the KC Star today. This, to my mind, is the highlight:

If you have the appetite of a rancher, try prime rib Fridays. From 4 to 10 p.m., you can order a 10-ounce cut for $21.95, includes soup or salad and a side, and then you get free 8-ounce cuts until you’re done.

This must happen. And soon. With many people. Nom nom nom.

So, yeah, I went to work, and had plenty of shit to do. And more for next week, so maybe we're over the slow time. Or not.

Came home, waited for Pulsifer, his lovely lady Gisele and our son Eric to bring over the slabs of dead cow for me to throw on the grill. When they showed up, I was frankly amazed. Normally, when one of our local grocers has top sirloin for $2.99/lb, they tend to be thin slices. These sucker were "family packs" of two per package, and a good 3/4" thick. Om nom nom.

Pulsifer brought a box of Boulevard Pale Ale, but didn't think it was enough, so we ran over to Gomer's and grabbed a six of Sam Adams Ale and Avery IPA, plus some Woodchuck Cider. After much maneuvering of the huge steaks on the baby coffin grill, we ate. Meat, taters, cucumbers in a Japanese marinade, and D2's peach cobbler for dessert.

So it behooves me to mention that this month marks the 20th anniversary of my meeting Pulsifer, at a KaCSFFS meeting at a bar at 31st and Main. How the time flies. A better friend one could not ask for. It is my privilege to call him my best friend, and to have had some small influence on the development of his most excellent children. You're the best, guy. Thanks for being there.
