So the final report on the car is: the cooling fan sensor was telling the computer that the car was operating at -84˚, so the computer saw no need to engage the cooling fans, which led to the massive explosion in the coolant reservoir. Additionally, the thermostat was "welded shut," according to the mechanic, who added, "Usually, you take a torch and pass it over the tip of the thermostat a few times, and it'll open right up*. I held that thing on the tip until it glowed red, and it finally started to move. I was looking for confirmation the thermostat was bad, and I got it." $500 later, I have a (presumably) functioning car.

Not sure why so many live cuts today, other than I have a lot of them. Rohanna and I will be hitting the road shortly to meander our way to Hutchinson, KS for BYO-con II, a gathering of Friends of the Dawn Patrol and other miscellaneous folks for fun and entertainment. Dragonet will be following later, after she gets off work. Fun is the goal. And I'll have to find watch the Jayhawks crush Missouri.
