As I wait for the Vicodin to fully kick in, I shall discuss my weekend, in its many forms.

Saturday began with Rohanna and I going to Lawrence for the monthly KanPoly meetup (Dragonet had a trip to a booksigning and some publisher schmoozing to do, and we heartily encouraged her in that endeavour). There was a good turnout, including a special appearance by [livejournal.com profile] puddlediving on her last day in the area. We gave the lovely Kim a ride back to town, and picked up the ConQuesT Progress Report from OrificeMax, where we had dropped it off on the way out of town. The ConQuesT meeting was productive in a number of ways, including my getting to chat with the lovely Aurora Celeste about getting an ad in the Naka-Kon program book (mission accomplished) and much progress made on the con.

After a brief trip home, it was back to the Writers' Place, where we reconvened upstairs for the KaCSFFS meeting (they had double booked a poetry reading downstairs. Ideally, a discount on the monthly fee will follow). After much chatting about various subjects (QOTD, from me "Will Smith will make a great Hari Seldon!"), it was determined we had a quorum and voted on officers, ending William's reign as director, much to his relief. The new director wasn't there, as he chose to keep his flu to himself, rather than sharing it with the membership. All agreed it was an auspicious start to his administration. A fun trip to Bell Street Mama's followed, where I got endless hot chocolate with whipped cream and chocolate syrup in a 16 oz. plastic coke glass. Nummy num num.

Sunday I watched both the teams I thought would win lose in the Conference Championship games, and so am condemned to two weeks of breathless gormless reportage on Kurt Warner and his BFF Jesus again. Oddly, I am not expecting much coverage of how Jesus abandoned Kurt when the Cards lose the Super Bowl, like he did in 2001 in New Orleans (Patriots beat Rams, Jesus seen in the French Quarter turning water into Hurricanes).

Today I spent a lot of the day at work making a house out of cardboard. It's for a client's presentation, and I made a series of cardboard boxes, which will be covered with laminated vinyl with various slogans. The parts had to match, so it took a bit to get all the cuts and scores just right. The bits done so far look good, if I do say so myself. Tomorrow I have to buld the roof, which should be interesting. As I was on my feet most of the day, my knees were not happy with me when I got home.

After watching Countdown (broadcast live from outdoors somewhere in D.C., with a large and appreciative crowd) and the newest episode of "24" (and no, the irony of going from Olbermann's special comment on the need for the Obama administration to investigate and prosecute the use of torture in the Bush Administration to the premier torture porn show on TV was not lost on me), I went downstairs to bring up the last of the laundry and get some ice cream to eat while I watched the end of KU's dismantling of Texas Tech. Since I still only have two hands (where's waldoes?), I put the dish of ice cream into the basket. As I neared the top of the first flight of stairs, I caught the toe of my slipper on the penultimate stair, and fell forward, landing on both knees, but managing not to spill the ice cream, or tip backwards and fall down the stairs. Yay me, sorta.

And now it's 1230p, and it seems that the pain has subsided enough for me to assay sleep. But before I go, a belated (by a half hour) happy 200th birthday to Edgar Allan Poe, creator of the mystery and horror genres, as well as supplying, over a century after his death, a raison d'etre for Roger Corman, Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and so many otheres. Had I some amontillado, I would raise a glass to his memory. Instead, I will suggest everyone go out and buy Poe, a new original anthology edited by ConQuesT 40's Toastmaster Ellen Datlow. Help save the economy and buy a couple three copies.

Sleep now, and we'll see what new fun I can get into tomorrow.
