Friday "OK Computer" Random 10+
Apr. 8th, 2011 08:59 amOK? More like awesome!
Yes, I finally got my "new" computer. After the fiasco the first go-round, Rohanna and I went back to trolling Ebay. Over and over, we would find something reasonable, only to watch the price go far beyond what we were willing to pay. Two weeks ago, after we lost another one at the last second, Ro called me downstairs to her office to look at another machine. It was a standard '08 Mac Pro with dual quad core Intel processors. The only enhancements were an extra 2G of RAM and a 1T hard drive. It was a buy it now for a couple hundred bucks under our limit, so we pounced.
Turned out the seller lived in Lee's Summit, so we met him at the Sheridan's out there for the transfer, which saved the shipping fees. He was a very nice guy, and his kids were probably students of Ro's daughter, who teaches 7th-8th grade math out there. For a variety of reasons, I wasn't able to start playing with until Sunday. I installed the 2T hard drive I had already purchased for it and fired it up. Zoom! Fast startup. Formatted the new drive and installed Snow Leopard, which meant for the first time this millennium I was running the current OS. I christened the new hard drive "Paisleywerks" and started the Migration Assistant on its task of moving everything from the old machine to the new one. Got up Monday morning and it was all done. A few minor details and it was off to the races. So let's see what iTunes has to play to help me celebrate.
1) Come On, The Degenerettes
2) Mother, Luther Wright & The Wrongs (from the excellent Rebuild the Wall)
3) The Love Of A Woman, Tommy James & The Shondells
4) Candy Bar Killer, Frank Bango
5) Christmastime Is For Sinners, The Mono Men
6) Expressway To Yr Skull, Ryan Adams
7) Chronoglide Skyway, Hawkwind
8) Nights In White Satin, Midnight Movies
9) Tell Me It Ain't So, Micah P Hinson And The Red Empire Orchestra
10) When The Ground Is Numb, William Ryan Fitch
faster!
11) Sound of Music, Joy Division
12) Vavarano, D'Gray
13) City of New Orleans, Steve Goodman
And off to work. No actual plans for the weekend (the Royals are out of town, so no ballgames except on TV). For now, a few minutes playing Angry Birds on Ro's computer. Soon I too will have it, and you'll never hear from me again.
