The Writers Guild of America has gone on strike as of midnight. The producers worked hard to stockpile episodes of prime time shows (as opposed to, say, bargaining in good faith), so there will be a few more eps of House and CSI: Intercourse* before it's a steady diet of sports,** reruns and "reality" shows.

For an excellent overview of the issues and one man's take on them, check out Kung Fu Monkey.

*It's in Pennsylvania, you pervs.

**Hmm, will WWE and other such programs go away, inasmuch as they are scripted? Trivia of the day: Bob Mould, punk guitarist par excellence with Hüsker Dü and Sugar was a senior writer for wrasslin' for a number of years.

Apparently wrestling, and "reality" programs (which, even in the case of shows that are more on the reality side-- i.e. documentary type things like you see on Discovery, National Geo, History, and whatnot-- they still have writers) are not subject to the strike, as those writers aren't affiliated with the Writers Guild.

Intercourse, PA. Been there, done that. But alas, haven't done that there... yet. Also been to Blue Ball :)

You mean we're going to be subjected to re-hashes of hackneyed age-old plots with predictable dialogue and cardboard characters?

How will we notice any difference?
