Shopping fun

This morning the whole family tagged along while I got the Intrepid inspected so it can be licensed for another two years. Normally, I would have done it alone, but from there we went to the salvage freight store that occupies the small bit of the old House of Lloyd building that Rohanna's company doesn't use. As always, we found many fun things. I stocked up on "Lost," the energy drink I have for breakfast (it's 69¢ a can there, as opposed to $2+ most places). While the ladies were looking around, I checked out the books (eh) and the cds. Found a Steely Dan tribute album with many fine guest guitarists (Al Di Meola, Steve Luthaker, Elliott Randall among others) for $1.99. Then I found "Mothership," the new remastered 2-cd Led Zeppelin collection, for $6.99. Mine!
From there, we went to Target, which did not have what we needed, and, because it's across the street, thence to Lukas Liquors. The first thing I saw there was cases of Paulaner Oktoberfest for $10 (yeah, they're a year old, but Oktoberfest-Märzen is designed to age well). As we continued, I picked up a six of Road Trip Brewing's "Sinister Rabbit," a dark and hoppy ale I have had in the past. Then the magic happened. Just down the aisle I stopped dead, staring at a beer. Rohanna almost rammed me with the cart as I stood there, pointing and babbling. "It's Gonzo Imperial Porter," I exclaimed. She looked at me querolously, so I explained: "This was the beer the Flying Dog Brewery made as a tribute to Hunter S. Thompson after his death. They put out 1500 champagne bottles, and they were sold via their website. Jimmy Hollaman was fortunate enough to get a bottle, which he shared with me. I had heard Flying Dog had decided to continue making it, but I've never seen it."
When we got to the register, one of the managers told me they had gotten two cases in (as a short run, specialty brew, it's sold in 4-packs, rather than the usual 6-pack). That made me even happier I had picked up one for me, and one for Jimmy, as well. Happy birthday, bro. Oh, and we've got your ginger preserves, too (not a euphemism).
