The Schmaltz Brewing Company makes a number of beers. Its regular 6-pack offerings are He-Brew (The Chosen Beer) Genesis Ale and Messiah Bold. They're ok, but nothing spectacular. The brewery shines, though, with its special releases. Every year they do their anniversary ale, Jewbilation. This year is Jewbilation 11, with 11 malts, 11 hops and 11% ABV. Also quite good is the Bittersweet Lenny R.I.P.A.

But tonight I want to talk about their offshoot, Coney Island Lagers. I have seen the Coney Island Lager, but never tried it. But now there are several new varieties, and I couldn't resist picking up Sword Swallower Steel Hop Lager. It has four malts and eight hops. The hops dominate, but without overwhelming the other flavors. Quite tasty; I'll probably pick this up again. But I'm really looking forward to Freaktoberfest, a blood red lager with an alcohol content of 6.66%. Yes, Jimmy, I'll get some for you, too.

I went to the site and see you're not making this up. But surely this is a joke?

Oh, no. You should be able to find at least some of their products in Lawrence. They are quite available in KC on both sides of the state line. Jewbilation 11 is a wonder, Lenny is very good, as is the Sword Swallower. Definitely worth checking out.

And even better, it's all Kosher. Apparently they've got a mohel on staff with a special tool for the hops . . .

Why yes i want that beer! 6.66% is just up my alley. And its blood red, a favorite color as well. And the Coney island lager was not bad, had one at contra last year if i remember or was it at bens halloween party. Any ways it was not that bad.... mine was one of the large bottles that the money went to save Coney island attractions that was falling down...

What's up guys. This is Zak from Shmaltz Brewing Company. I'm loving all of the HE'BREW conversation. We're definitely a beer company with more shtick than the rest, but we take our beers seriously. We started off as "Bar Mitzvah beer," being marketed predominantly to the Jewish community, but for the past several years we've been releasing unique beers that the craft beer community has been digging. It's definitely worth trying Rejewvenator, a half-doppelbock, half-belgian-inspired-dubbel, brewed with almost 500 gallons of fig juice. Coney Island Albino Python is also killer; an unfiltered white, spiced, lager brewed with coriander, orange peel, ginger, and crushed fennel. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions, ztdavis82@gmail.com. L'Chaim!!
